Just put the battery box back on the D4, installed new 6volt battery. New battery cables, ran new wire from regulator to ampere then to Pos. side of battery. Also ran a wire from the ampere to light switch, then out to new light on front. The old switch still worked, and light turned on. Have not used a battery for years always started with rope. Did start up nice with the battery. I don't think the battery is charging thou. I have taken cover off regulator and used a little sand paper on points. The ammeter does not move, however with the tractor off and pushing the contacts together on the battery side of regulator it does move into the discharge. Which I guess makes sense. Hopefully the generator is still good. And what is this polarizing? As always appreciate any help, big snow storm coming here in the Northeast.
Gotta be ready.

Hi wfsproul.......I had some problems withmy generator as well and the guys here helped me resolve the issues. Type in the search box the following "D2 Geneator and Pony carb saga continued........ " without the quotations and yes I know generator is spelled wrong...😊 This will take you to where Old Magnet and others answered the questions you have now.....hopefully....😊
Have a good evening.......Bill

Need to know whether it is a Delco Remy or American Bosch generator/regulator combination as they are polarized differently.

Polarizing establishes the initial magnetism required to make the system work.

regulator says Delco Remy. Cannot read the tag on generator.

Assuming the generator and regulator are a match....usually are.
To polarize:
Connect all the leads to the regulator and momentarily touch a jumper between the "Gen" and "Bat" terminals of the regulator.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
