We hooked the 26 model 30 up to a 6 bottom disc plow today, and pulled it in second gear. It surprised me how it just kept lugging along, as this was the first I had loaded it.

You got to figure any engine that makes REAL horsepower at low rpms must have lots of REAL torque!
That was part of the original design to make a strong engine that ran at an acceptable speed to produce real work. Hence the long stroke, big bore and heavy flywheel design that became the Industry Standard for many years to follow.
BTW did you go home covered in dust. oil and food crumbs?
If you did, then it was DEFINITELY a FUN DAY plowing!

I definatly went home dirty, dusty and tired, but was a great time. Getting to drive a big Nichols and Sheppard steam engine was a blast. A great time with great friends, Priceless!!!!!!!!!! Now time to get out and unload.

Those old engines did produce alot of torque. my 75, 83dbhp, pulls this disk in 2nd, really slow compared to our 180hp D7, but just lugs right along, I guess back then you werent in much of a hurry like today. lol!

Great pictures Thanks for sharing!
I to have never seen a disc plow it would have worked well on our Susquehanna river bottom farm! Dusty and dirty from noble work like turning soil gives you a great feeling! I wish I had ground available now to plow with my D2.

I consider my self a Disc Plow conesuer! The better name for a disc plow is really a "dry land plow" as it will go in the ground under drier and harder condition where other plows will not. If you pull one to fast they will jump up and turn side ways and run on the discs.
I've got Dennis fired up after plowing and now hes gonna have to come over and get one of our plows to refurbish👍
If you can pull 4 mulboard bottom then you can pull 5-6 possibly 7 disc bottom because it rolls the dirt out on the disc.
List of disc plows we have
6 bottom P&O (just like the 30 is pulling)
5 bottom 4 wheel P&O (found another for parts)
mulitple 3 bottom P&O's
4 bottom Case
5 bottom Case
5 bottom Johndeere
4 bottom Emerson Braningham
And Its promised to me but its an 18 bottom brand unknown gang disc plow (actually 3- 6's factory linke together.) Goin behind the BEST 60
lots of ONEWAYS but those are the devil so we wont talk about those😆😈

great looking outfit, might I ask if the pads are facing the correct direction, I have seen CAT 60's with the grouser at the rear of the plate but with a different lead and trailing edge, i always ask else I will never know.

I believe the pads are on backwards. I have a set of the pressed pads that are correct fot the 30 that I will be putting on it, so will correct it at that time.
