Plowing with steel tracks (and steel wheels)

Here are some pictures from the Spring Steam Up at Rough & Tumble, Kinzers, PA (R&T).

Every year, the R&T organization pays the local farmer NOT to plow this ajacent field so the members of R&T can plow it with their antique tractors during the Spring Steam Up.

After the event the farmer then plants this field with the intended crop for that year.

The Spring Steam Up Plowing event is supposed to be for the Steam Traction Engines but some the wheeled tractors also participate.

In my case… someone offered their plow to me and asked if I would like to give it a try.

I said SURE!

Note the last picture with Reggie in the Dachshund seat and just imagine me asking him; “Reggie do you want to go plowing” and his tail was wagging a mile-a-minute.

This two bottom plow was easily pulled in third gear at ¾ throttle.

(Thanks to Ken Johnson for taking the pictures)

Daughter Andrea was on site at the plowing event with her NEW Russell Traction Engine. Take a look at the work she did to this over the winter. Best of all it has a new Stutsman's boiler

What size plow were you pulling and what gear were you running in?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
