The other tag location is behind the governor on the main engine block, just below the block to head join. If the tags are missing, you'll see two small holes where the drive pins secured the tags. Carefully scrape the paint off between them to reveal the serial # stamped into the block.
Doesn't look like a 7U to me - has the large governor housing on the front, straight pinion clutch lever, air cleaner inlet at the front of the hood, small bearing case on the final. There could be 7U parts on it, but the engine, hood, and finals do not look like a U. What % of parts would deem it a U vs. T? I'd argue that the main engine and the transmission/final/undercarriage would need to all be U-series to qualify, otherwise it's a combination and should be advertised as such.
Thanks for the reply. I have a complete 7J and a 7u that's in pieces, was hoping this would be a 7U but all the facts are pointing towards a 4400. Under the impression it was a 7U I Told the guy I would buy it, but on the drive home the air filter location kept popping in my mind. Owell. Rookie mistake! Haha
Its a 7J or early 2T?, small outer final drive hub bearings and governor in the timing case tells me.
