Does anyone have a chart that shows the pitch on a gas 40 and maybe rail height or roller dia they can post, or tell me possibly? Does the R5 have the same rails too? Thanks

I still have not been able to find out any info at all on the 40 u/c. Is there anyone who has any idea of the pitch or height on the early threaded link rails? I would like to find out how much wear is on mine before starting on the restoration it is an early wide and I believe the complete early u/c is still good but I have never seen another set to be able to compare with.

I am just guessing on a 40 but R5 is the same as RD6 which is the same as 9u D6.The early rails were shorter in height if I understood correctly, but the pitch is the same. There was something about 35 rails not to long ago and I think someone said they are different than RD6 cannot find it with a search of old posts so maybe I am dreaming,as I always thought they were the same. For a show tractor it would be more how good are the pins and bushing as I don't would think your going to plow the back 40 ever day or cut a house pad a day with it.Good luck with your project.

The D35 rails are the same part number as the 30 Cat rails which will run on a D4. They are same pitch but narrower than D40 and RD6, I assume the gas 40 would be the same wider size as well. As time went on the pitch stayed the same but they got much beefier.

I don't have much info on early undercarriage and what I have I wouldn't bet a paycheck on so use accordingly....

Pitch is 6.75 in....same as early D4's & 6's and others
Link height is 3-7/16 in.
Grouser height is 2-1/8 in.
Roller flange O.D. is 9-3/8 in.
Rolling surface for track rollers is 8.00 in.

Apparently later rollers will work but the bolt pattern may be slightly different requiring plugs being welded into the old holes to avoid drill walk.

Hope that helps!!! Please correct if known to be in error.

Yes, it does appear to be a match for the R5

Hi OM,
just found this "stickin" one in a Cat Undercarriage book from 1962, for what it is worth. Have just recieved some literature from an older mechanic from the Dealer, so am going thru it when time permits.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

More good stuff.
I guess that's where the D2 specs I posted came from.
Users have to realize the info is for the listed track link part numbers only!!!!

edb,
Anything on old grouser bolting patterns and sizes???

Guess I'm losing it...went to file that first chart and found I already had two copies.....oh well.

Hi OM,
I have not found anything on the subject in a chart, only mention here and there in machine upgrades and then not consistantly in the same Literature type.
Yep, know what you mean about doubling up, BUT, we have to grab what we can when it is available and check our files later if time allows.
I will keep a look out for said data though.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
