I went with my two kids to pick up a nice PV15 (PV3090) east of Fresno on Saturday. Turns out the engine got replaced with an 8C20 engine. Sadly it's stuck, but tractor rolls freely. I didn't know the PV rear end would match up to an 8C. I think it also has an original drawbar hitch pin. My son went digging under the seat and found the pin. This unit did a lot of work in its past. The foot pedals are rather worn. The tractor is going to make for some more good yard art up on the rock wall.
Question for those that are more in the know. The brass 8C tag on the engine show 8C on one side of the tag and 20 on the other side of the tag. But nothing in the middle. Is the serial number of the 8C engine 20 or is this a replacement engine that one would stamp a serial number on?
Thank, Karl
The pin on the right is from a big Cat 20 and the pin on the left is the one my son found under the seat. I didn't know there were different size pins for each machine but makes sense.
For finding the pin under the seat I let my son ride the tractor up and on the flatbed. You don't need Disney land when you've got old Tonka toys to play with.
The 8C 20 is basically the same as the PV 15, from that tag I read that engine is an 8C 20 as well as being the 20th 8C built. Is there a tag on the back ? they could have put a 15 radiator on a 8C20 or an 8C engine in a PV15, the tag on the back will tell.
Sometimes parts from other series were used on a tractor if they were the same to use up parts, such as the radiator, where the only difference was the side plates.
Josh, there is no tag on the back. I'm pretty sure it's a pv15 rear end. Thanks for the info.
There should be a number stamped in the case where the tag was, the trans case is the same on the 8C20 and PV15.
Early PV’s did not have a tag on either the engine or the transmission case.
