Hey everyone. First post!

I recently picked up a couple of project graders.

I"ve already moved one out to the farm and need to move the other one still.

Machine number 1 is 9K5624 which I believe puts it at around 1943. It is a old army grader and has a tag saying it was rebuilt in 1956. This one has a D318 in it. Story is it ran when parked about 8 years ago but the pony engine stopped engaging on it. I'll post more about this one when I get a little more time to type it all out.

Machine number 2 is 9K9874 which I believe puts it around 1945. Same thing with the army tags but this one has the original D4600. This machine has been sitting somewhat longer. Same story of running when parked but the rain cap was left off and it locked up over the winter years ago and its locked up.

Im hoping to get both of these machines back up and running. Looking forward to learning more about them.

you would be surprised what you can do by filling the cylinders with diesel and a block of wood each day give it a tap and top up the diesel. we freed a stuck engine that way.

The problem with multiple stuck pistons if that you need to free them all up at once unless you have the crankshaft out.

My plan is to pull the head and fill it with MMO and see if I can get it freed up. I have hopes that it will run again.

it just takes time and patience. i watched a video the other day and the fella used evaporust to soak the rusted cylinder and with rocking the crank back and forth with the pilot engine to use its gearing he got it to free up. he then used a scotch-brite and kerosense to clean up the cylinder before honing it and got a full rotation.

Hi,
In the "Sticky" section at the top of the Discussion page (this section of the forum) of the forum are excellent instructions on how to add photographs produced by Daryl (rax200).
I suggest that you open another browser session and open Daryl's instructions, then you can flip back and forth (alt + tab on a PC) between the two browser sessions, the instructions and the session where you are trying to add photographs.
I often use more than one session if I need to refer to something.
