The comprehensive info found in the Cat Performance Handbooks is designed to assist salespeople, and owners, as to all the specifications, performance, tables, costs, and associated info, involved in running Cats for a living.
This info has been available from the early 1930's, and was originally published as part of the "Sales Kits". The particular publication that was the early version of the CPH, is called "Earthmoving, Construction, Industrial and Logging Data".
This publication came out on a reasonably regular basis .. but not annually.
In the mid 1960's, a binder format was devised for this info, and it became more comprehensive. I think what drove this information rollout, was the need to update info for owners, when Cat released a range of new models.
The CPH commenced life in the format shown by Arthropod in 1971, and has been released annually ever since. Naturally, Komatsu produce a similar booklet, and follow the same format .. ๐
Here's a scan of the index page of a 1936 copy of this booklet that I own. Some of the logging data and info, was lifted directly from a 1935 Hyster logging information booklet.
