A little while back I won the bid on a parts machine D8 2U. I didn't get any pictures of the recovery in progress. I was lucky enough to have a fellow with an adequately sized excavator onsite, who kindly facilitated dragging it out to where he could then load it onto a truck for me. All went without a hiccup, which was a huge relief when working a three hour drive from home. Here's the couple of pictures that I did take.
Once it landed at my place, I decided to bolt the radiator back on with a few bolts if nothing more than to keep it out of harm's way for now since it wasn't in bad shape. My carrier commented that it makes a nice garden ornament and he'd like one for his place.
Ya it is sad when people look at them as garden ornaments. They are amazing machines and just will not die. I have a 7, 6 and an D2 which had 3 rusted cylinders and valves now running perfectly. A thru testament to old time craftsman ship.
Nice job on the rescue!
Hi, D8Dude.
Woddaya mean, a parts machine??? As the immortal Swishy would say, a buff up, a replacement hood and some new upholstery and it'll be ready to go to work.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
Hi D8Dude. If that is your garden ornament i would hate to do the weeding, bloody big garden. Where did you fetch this machine from and is there a chance it might run again or is it too far gone for that.
Cheers. Chris.
As much as I do like the look of it in my front yard, it can't stay there. It was over your way Chris, near Winchelsea. I actually don't know what the issue was with it, and I haven't dug into it to find out yet. The main engine had been prepped for removal, and the rear crankcase side cover is missing some bolts, so it's my guess that something was up with the crankshaft perhaps. The undercarriage isn't in bad condition, that's what I really wanted, anything else is a bonus. To my surprise, when I got it home, I was able to turn both engines over. Brakes and steering clutches all worked while it was being towed out of the paddock, although right side sounded a little growly with steering clutch released. Fenders are rusted out where they meet the main frame. I need a sacrificial lamb to get the others in my collection in better shape, and this one has something for all of them, so unless I decide to knock one of the others on the head, this will be the parts machine. The others do run, so it's hard for me to save this one over any of them.
