I'M looking for an engine rebuild kit for a 1949 cat D4 with a D315 engine. I called Ragal and they said they need the serial# off the tractor which is 7U5459 and the guy told me that the serial#'s listed were from 7U27270-7U44307 the # on my tractor is on a plate in 2 spots and both are in good shape and read the same #. Any help with this would be appreciated. The engine serial # is 4F6180 which I also gave him but he insisted he needs the tractor# which I gave him

The 4F is not a serial number but something else in it,s assembly I think from the factory. The SNs are both the same as you posted engine and tractor back when it was made. If the engine was different then the only way it could change is if the engine was replaced from another tractor or machine that had the D315 in it. I don,t see where he gets the SN unless his parts he was looking up showed covering those higher SNs.

Don't forget to look in the construction yellow sheets Rock and Dirt? and call some of the kit suppliers. That d315 is all over the placeand should be easy. Jim
