Hey OldMagnet-Team,

A friend called who is rebuilding a torque converter on a D8 15a-1850. The torque converter that came out of the tractor does not match the parts book. He has the correct part book by serial number. Was an upgrade made later? He has a Two spline shaft, not a three spline shaft as shown in original drawing. Here is a text from Steve Macintosh;

15A1850 twin disc diesel converter cat p/n 5H1985 TDCmodel13801TCOS
Service magazine #JA2661 and MA1761
Need parts book picture so I can assemble correctly, my books show 7H1315 tc assem, not the same, early 46A the same?

So, if anybody has a drawing showing the upgrade, it would be appreciated.
Glen

There are several TC combinations used on the 15A.
To start with 5H1985 TC assy. is used 15A1-1672
Input shaft 5H4981
Output shaft 5H4982

7H1315 TC assy. is used on 15A1673-2474
Input shaft 5H4981
Output shaft 5H4982

I'm not making any sense out of the two spline/three spline shafts???

Hi Team,
only recall working on one Direct Drive D8 3 Stage Fuel Type Torque Converter back in about 1964 so do not recall if the shaft had 3 splined sections, the Serv Mags I have do not cover the dates given --BUT-- Product Bulletins do match the given dates and have machining modification drawings for the D/Drive TC that appear to show a 3 spline TC shaft.
The Power Shift T/C has a two spline shaft.

Product Bulletins Jan 26-61 and March 17-61 show the DD type shaft that needs to be machined for modification to take the new Higher Capacity Bearing setup. The March PB shows amended drawing dimensions to carry out the job.

Attached are the P B's.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

My parts books for the 15A shows the same output shaft (two spline for TC) #5H4982 for the entire production.
The input shaft does change at s/n 15A2475-up to a #8H5625

Thank you for the input. Steve stated that with the drawings of the bearing update, it all made sense now. He wanted me to pass along a BIG Thank You. 😛eace:
Thanks
