Hi, Galynn.
Thank you, Sir. Wonderful jobs. NOTHING beats being there but sometimes it can be hard to catch all of parade when you're busy doing other things.
Just my 0.02. Thanks again.
Hey Deas,
I didn't know there were Parades going on!...:faint2:... I guess some of us were kind of busy...😆... Thanks Galynn. Much appreciated... 😛op2:... Keep up the good work.
Nothing nicer than a pretty lady operating a Cat! that 983 is quite a hoss! and the Best 30, the inspiration for the high drive D10. What a great show!!!!!
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
Hi, Rome K/G.
In Eric Orlemann's book, Caterpillar Chronicle, there is a photo of the first 'test bed' for the D10 elevated sprocket design. It is a single-tracked crawler garden tractor which pulled a Land Rover 4wd around a car park at the Caterpillar factory.
BTW, the Best 30 Humpback is not the first high sprocket crawler machine ever built. Ben Holt built a ditcher in 1910 that had its drive sprockets in about the same position as the carrier rollers on a D4, circa 1939 to 1985 or thereabouts, whenever the first high sprocket D4s came out.

That is the only photo I have of it.

Hello Deas, I didnt say it was the first but i thought i remembered reading that the idea for the elevated sprocket on the D10 came from the Best Thirty.
