What you have is a R4 engine block(G 4400) set-up with D4400 accessories.
I have a parts manual r4 serie 6g931 to 6g5383 forme 8886 and the piston have 4 rings on top side and 1 in bottom side and it is 4 cylinder gas machine and the connecting rods are the same for 4400 and 4600
The D4/RD4 and R4 share the same block and bottom end.
Thanks guys. That clears up that mystery. I did not know that the gas and diesel shared the same block. We learn something new every day.
See old-iron-habit, you can teach an old dog something new!

Most motors number 1 is at the front. Exceptions are later model tractors like the Fendt 300 series with the MWM motor.
The standard carb Was a Zenith K5A, there were also several other Zenith carbs used for other fuels, post the serial number, you may get more information.
