This past weekend while a few of us was working on the Chapter 3 D4 orchard model we discovered that it had some modifications. The engine Serial number is 6G424. This number does not exist in the tracked machines serial number book. After removing the unreadable damaged rear transmission tag we found the serial number of 4G3835 stamped into the housing which makes it an 1937 year RD4. This is the transition year to D4 but this serial number is very early in the year so it is probably an RD4. Apparently the engine had been changed at some point. Cat showed that serial number 6G to be a 6 ring engine instead of 5 rings. Any idea what this engine came out of. Power unit perhaps.

The pony is running, the one new sleeve is installed, steering clutch is freed up. We hope to hear it run at our next work day on July 9th. We just need the one set of piston rings to get delivered to finish the assembly. Sorry but I took no pictures.

The D4/RD4 and R4 share the same block and bottom end.

Thanks guys. That clears up that mystery. I did not know that the gas and diesel shared the same block. We learn something new every day.

Most motors number 1 is at the front. Exceptions are later model tractors like the Fendt 300 series with the MWM motor.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
