I was going through some of my old photos, and stumbled across this one. 20 years ago this event was still talked about from time to time, but I haven't heard anyone mention it in quite some time. The area where this happened is pretty soft, even during the most sever drought. I believe this happened in '42, or shortly thereafter. I'll have to ask a few old timers if they remember how they got the poor old sixty out. The tractor ended up being cut up for scrap after it was retired. Part of the Wausau V plow that it pushed is still out behind my friend's farm.

Machines stuck nowadays can even be a problem sometimes; but way back then when it was probably the only one of its kind around the problem of extracting it takes on mind boggling porportions. would have had to have a lot of pulley blocks, deadman anchors, wire rope, and still something bigish to pull with ! Story of how she did come out would be interesting to hear ! 👍

Great picture. We travel to Ontanogan a couple times a year. Have friends there and at Mass City. I wonder if the newspaper archives would have some old copy. I would think that it would have been quite a story even back then.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
