While hiking in a remote area with our scouts we found an old long abandoned Cat Dozer that has a cable operated blade. I took pictures of it but am not sure if or how I can upload for your viewing. The left track had come off and it looks like they just left the dozer where it broke down. This land was once private long ago but is now state land. Our troop is looking for history on what year dozer this might be and maybe we can determine how long it has been "lost". Thanks for your help. T139

A shot in the dark would be more help than we can give from that, but we can help if you can post the pictures and or any serial number information on the two tags that are on the machine.

One will be found on the left side of the engine block toward the rear of the engine just above the levers that control the starting engine clutch.

Another will be found on the back of the tractor on the left side above the drawbar support. If they are missing, there should be a number stamped into the metal underneath where the small 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" tag were held on by two rivets.

Here's some information on posting pictures.

How about a scout project!
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare timeπŸ˜„

Thanks Steve for the picture.
I will email you what pics that I have. I think that it is bigger than the one you posted and the pulleys are on the back and then the cables go low around each side to the front where they actuate the blade up or down.
I tried to upload my pictures but they were too big and I have not figured out how to make them smaller yet.
Thanks again for your help!

T139,

I believe the R series D6 was introduced in 1940 and was produced until 1947. The dashboard shown on your pictures and it having a seat/fuel tank probably means it was made later in the series, but I don't know when/if there was a complete change over from the tank in front of the operator's station.

This was about a 60 hp tractor weighing about 22,000 pounds with blade and PCU on the back.

Here's a link to one that is on the web. There's some over on ACME with the dozer blade and all, but you have to be registered to see them.

Thanks for the information, I believe you have identified it!!
I don't think it will be going anywhere, and I'm not really sure how it got there.
The terrain is really low and swampy and if not walking there in the winter you better have your swampers on!

Thanks again!
