Hi All, First time post.
I was hoping someone could help identify this Cat Gen Set I picked up.
The placard reads Cat Wheel Type Tractor Engine Series C Ser# 59C320.
I thought it might be related to the DW Wheel Tractor series but I really
dont know. Its mounted on what looks to be a military trailer. Heavy Duty!

Thanks for your help.

I just can,t remember as they weren,t popular here in my area like the DW21s were but if I can remember right I think they had a D326 engine in them, so correct me if I,m wrong. My book I have doesn,t list the particular engine they used in them.

Definitely not your "built for price" type of generator set if it's really a 50 kW generator end on it!๐Ÿ˜„

Maybe it's governed at 1200 rpm instead of 1800. Any tags on the generator end or skid? Some have a number stamped in the steel between the engine and the generator control box, near a hole for a lifting bolt.

Got any pictures?
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time๐Ÿ˜„

Hi all,
Thanks Burce,SJ,and ccjersey for all your input. Took some pictures today, I hope
they make in on the post. The placard on the generator is a 50kw rating with a 1800 RPM. Is it possible to be a D318 gen set?

It does look like a D318 which fits with the 50kW a little better than a D326.

I still don't know how that serial number fits in with this all.

When I was in the Air Force we had some units that looked just like that. They were used on the remote radar sites to run the compressors that provided start air for the White Superior 450Kw generators. The white was a 8" bore 6 cylinder inline engine I do not know how much horse power. There were five big generators in the power house, and always too of them on line. If we were doing standby transmitter adjustments on the search radar we had to have a third one put on line.
