Hello ACMOC,,,, 1937 RD4 ,,, early, how does one go about changing the oil on the pony motor? Can't find the drain plug. By the way, in relation to posts I made concerning our mag and no spark. It's all solved now, the mag did have two wires one had broken off inside the black coating and after scraping off the black stuff I was able to solder another wire on and bingo, spark. I also installed a six and a half horse engine w/ a centrifugal clutch that has a recoil start so as to start the pony w/. Works great. But I need to change the pony oil...

Thank You, Doug

The RD4 (4Gxxxx) has the drain spigot sticking out on the RH side front of the pony motor just like all the rest of the D4's

Hi mcbitchman,
Yes everybody is right it is located on the RHS when sitting on the tractor just under the filler for the main engine, but if it is not there it has probably been broken off and a plate put over the outlet, that make it a bit harder to change, i have included a photo of my RD4 and where it should b. In this photo the fender has not been installed.

Different tractor but since these items can be swapped around a fair bit, my 3J pony has a very short oil drain, not much more than the flange that bolts to the block so keep an eye out for that if your's doesn't look like Daryl's

Many of the drains are short enough that the oil runs down the side of the engine. Makes a mess. But that's the spot.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
