Hello folks!

I bought a 1956 D7 last year and began the process of learning how to run the machine and making repairs and changing the fluids. Today I started the machine for the first time after a long winter hibernating in the Maine woods. I was so delighted when it started right up on the first try!

Last year I was able to change the clutch fluid and made an adjustment to the clutch brake so I can now shift without grinding. The next step is changing the final drive and transmission oils and filter, and the engine oil and filter.

Has anyone used oil additives like Tufoil or Bestline in their final drives, transmissions, and engines? The videos I've seen on youtube are compelling.

It's good to be back and I look forward to any and all responses!

I understand that Cat has an oil for finals and transmissions that they have recently come out with. Someone here will know what it is called.

Years ago , I was told by a very practical cat mechanic to run series 3 SAE 30 and a gallon of motor honey (Lucas) in each final. It reduces heat and the acid pitting on the bearings that gear oil (SAE 90) does when they sit for a while. High sulfur content and condensation equals sulfuric acid. It seems to work, haven't lost any bearings.

Depending on the costs, next time, I'll go with the Cat oil or series 3 SAE 50 and motor honey. about 4 gal of oil and a gal of Lucas.

Good Luck

Thanks, Casey. Sounds like good advise. I suspect the CAT oil is cost prohibitive for me. I have to wonder though about these seemingly amazing additives like Bestline and Tufoil. Here are a couple of videos that are truly amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-bU6SByP0Y and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPRMA1cS-H4.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
