Grey head;
When I was working for Caterpillar in the early 60's, Cat built some special tracks for some D6's that were being used in the phosphate mines. The pads were offset 1.75". After about 3 months we restored them to the original tracks because it was causing extreme wear on the rollers, idlers and sprockets. One of the tractors actually twisted a frame rail. The operators also complained that the tractors did not steer very well, mushy was the term they used. The only benefit was job security to the mechanics who had to repair the machines.
