Went to the DMV and transfered the title and purchased Historic plates for my new to me 1979 Chevy Titan toy hauler. Instead of sales tax there was a 1 time $150.00 Historic Vehicle tax, the plates were $50.00 and you have a choice of one or two if you want plates front and back. Ours in MN are permanent. There is no annual fee. The vehicle is exempt from DOT. The restrictions are, You can not use them for any commerce. She said to be sure to have "not for hire" on it when traveling out of state. You can drive them on Sundays, Holiday periods, and if traveling to or from a special event. A special event can be as simple as dinner at your friends if the idea is to share your treasure. She said the intent is to not have them as daily drivers. Then as long as I was there I asked about the Med card exemption. She pulled out a single sheet and in 2 minutes I had my exemption on my CDL in the computer and approved by the state. My class A commercial license stays valid and I do not need a medical card as long as I am not driving for hire. All in all a good day. Headed out to buy a lottery ticked. Normally DMV does not go so good.

Heres a couple of pictures.

Might want to buy TWO lottery tickets!

Nice to have things go well-especially at the DMV! ....might be a little tough to find parking for the Titan in Outback's parking lot when you take it to dinner, but with your luck lately you'd probably have your pick. Lol

ALWAYS nice when Providence intervenes and life gets easier for a change.

Congrats!

Hi, O-I-H.
Next time I am up your way, let's take a ride in that jigger and go through the local Golden Arches drive-thru for a quick coffee. R U on?

A kew-ree-yuss mind would like to know.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

wow i wish it was that cheap and easy up hear. we only get choice A and nothing else. but if you a farmer you don't have to get a cld or even a air brake endorsement as long as you run farm plates and while running farm plates you can save some money and run die fuel too, on your way to roading your combine with 40 foot header down the road with or with out light's depends how new lol. sorry about the rant. nice looking rig just need's a winch in the bed and a headache rack on and maybe some good ramps.

Hi, O-I-H.
Now WHY would THAT be, that you would guess that I would come up there in summer and not winter? LOL.

Forgone conclusion.

Just my 0.02.

It is a 1979 Chevrolet Titan, 350 Cummins with a 13 speed Roadranger. Not sure of the finals gearing but I drove it home at 72 MPH on the interstate and had some left to go. It has 10'-5" of stationary flatbed and 18' of dump bed. It has 177,000 miles on it and close to 7,000 hours. It was owned by a truss manufacturer and spent its working life delivering trusses locally. Looking to get it painted over the winter. I was planning on going with Cat yellow with black trim. Debby wants another color. I told her if she pays for half the paint job she can pick the color. We will all have to hide and watch to see what color it turns out to be. I just hope it not flowers like her old school bus.

All,

Thinking back a few months, recall OIH told us how he runs aviation gas in his machines. He gave me a wobbly answer when I asked "how high off the ground" and was he using "larger cooling fans" to do it. Now we see he has purchased an "aircraft carrier" complete with a control tower to land them on. You can't fool us Roger on what you are doing up there in the north woods!

Seriously, good show Roger! Your 28.5' bed is longer than my entire IHC R185 flatbed @ 25' that I just bought. I am thinking yellow with black trim too or I might stay with the IH Red with black fenders. I hope you got the low down from GP on the historic plates out here. Sounds like yours are cheaper- duh, go figure!!!!

Looking forward to your progress.

I did talk to Pete about the historic plates in CA. They seem to about identical rules. The only difference I recall is that you will have a $50.00 annual fee instead of them being permanent. I checked out insurance on it and got a quote of around $350.00 a year for full coverage. Seems you can't buy just medical and liability on a classic vehicle. The insurance has the same driving restrictions as the plates so it should work out.

Not in WA, if it has a license it cannot run offroad fuel even if it is not on the hiway.

That's my understanding anyhow!
