Been thinking for awhile about picking up an excavator if I can find one. I was thinking around a 220 for size, or something that could be hauled on a tripple axle trailer. Anyone here have any experience with these machines? What's good, what's bad, what does one need to look at if purchasing one? Also curious what fuel usage is on these girls. Sorry its not exactly antique, but it isn't exactly new either, and thought someone on here would have some experience. Thanks, Dan.

My literature on Cat doesn't list a model 220 excavator.

Gosh. I apologize. I guess I was thinking of something similar in size to a 320, but a model older. Would this be a 215 or a 225? Or am I just not even in the right ball park?

I would recomend a 225 powered with a 3304 engine and with the Rexroth Pump set up. Then from there just look for a sound nonwornout machine.

The 215 models are about 39,000 lbs.
The 225 models are about 53,000 lbs

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
