Someone asked if I needed any more tractors. The answer was NO, but that doesn’t seem to stop me from gathering more here.
I will have to ponder what to do with these things. I can’t drive the ones that run as it is! JM
One of them I would run as far away from as possible, it does have a different seat and a top roller but my bet, IT WILL STILL LAUNCH ONE OVER THE RADIATOR CAP! Memories do not fade but I am getting older and more cautious!
The other two are possible keepers, one has "the necessary Check Busters" and the other is a long 5 roller track frame. Going to be tough decision.
Thanks for Posting Juiceman! cts
It's a sickness, no known cure. Just get more Cats.
Hi, juiceman.
The simplest definition of an addiction that I have ever heard is this one: "An addiction is something that is done to avoid feeling a feeling."
WHAT feeling are you trying to avoid feeling?
The 'check buster' D4 appears to have the large front idlers and the idlers appear to be well back in their adjustment which, unless links have already been taken out in all three, could mean that the pins and bushes are in fairly good shape, at least internally. The 'matchbox model' seems to have fairly well worn grousers but the two D4s seem to be in better shape in that regard.
While I am not keen on the idea of 'space travel' without the comfort of a satellite around me, all three would seem to have some potential.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
you need some volunteers jm to assist with driving duties.
"i reject your reality and substitute my own" - adam savage. i suspect my final words maybe "well shit, that didnt work"
instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality
I do see a little space spare in the shed so I guess they have a new home now, nice machines
I am guilty of rescuing "stray cats". Sadly, I am not able to save all of them. I am hoping some ambitious hoarder would buy the 3J from me AFTER I remove the unique seat pump. I am not sure if it was really Be-Ge, since both the pump and controls are "Hydreco" branded. I have only seen one other similarly built, and not clear of the actual manufacturer.
One of these days when I get an ambitious visitor, I will attempt to pull/push start the D-4s. Depending on how well they run, will determine their fate. The intention was to acquire these for parts only, but I really hate knocking one in the head.
Volunteers? That question perplexes me as well. When I take loads of iron to shows, I prefer to see them operating. Either I bring too many for the enjoyment of others, or not enough folks interested in driving my jalopies?
I may just offer a machine to one of our local high schools for an ag mechanics class or restoration.
The idea of raffling off a machine to an ACMOC member will be considered as well.
See you at the next show! JM
***Make note to myself: Install seat belts on 3J for CTSnowfighter, and "lock out" transmission rack anything faster than 2nd gear***LOL.
JM - you really do not have to go to the length of installing seat belts on a tailseat 3J. (1)- I learned to lock my Size 12's under the brake pedals, besides there was no room for them between the brake pedals anyway. (2)- Those D2's have been put to pasture long ago, they are few and far between to be found doing any work today. There is some blessing in getting OLD. (3) - "we" Cat enthusiasts (collectors) would not want to put Space X to shame, we would use way less fuel and get just as much excitement from the "launch"! Might lack the "cushion" of the landing though.
JM - I have not forgotten my lessons, Thank You for reminding me to decline any offers of a 3J tailseat D2! As much as I recall the tailseat D2's, I still believe the "sidewinder" Thirty (standard guage) was much worse, reacted very quickly!
