Hi Bob,
Your right, don't see much on the #6 shovel.
Here is what little I have and think I know....
#6 10A series built 1953-1955
Turned into the 977D (20A series) (1955-195😎 and then the 955E (1958-1960)
Used the D6 undercarriage and D318 engine.
I couldn't tell you what the difference between models is....all I have for the #6 is the Service Information manual.
Some specs on the 977:
The 6 loader is like a D6 and have a 318 motor and am still have a service information for NO-6 SHOVEL
Did Cat turbo it to get 100 HP? I know that Cat had a "grader/loader" kit for the D318. My D69U27222 had this kit added by the previous owner to save fuel/add horse power for field work. I only pull a 14 ft Goble 2ft diameter disk and it hardy grunts. Just Curious!

No turbo was used.
Early units 10A1-10A705 were less hp and rated at 1400rpm
10A706-10A1616 and the 20A's were rated at 1800 rpm along with a 9" dia. fan pulley, governor and spring changes and the 20A's got cam shaped pistons.
For comparison the 8/9U's were rated at 1600 rpm.
