Just purchased this 1942 12 Road Grader, D4600, 15hp Pony, scarfier. All works need pony Fuel cap, 1 injector is unhappy and hopefully needs cleaning, need engine oil changes and clean and painted. Was passed around several Federal agencies and has this brass tag on fuel tank in front and below seat, not sure what is is?? Serial 9K5514 Decals on the cab side show a little history where she has been. Runs great other than injector and pony starts on 6V or 2nd or 3rd pull on rope. purchase cost of my day at auction $1200. Drove 25 miles home, straightened up driveway and neighbors after grease job and now for more maintenance before winter hits. Not sure how to post pics will read and try to learn more. Will post pics as soon as I can. Found Brass tag attached to diesel tank in cab below seat that states " U.S.-A.E.C. 214 ZIA Company" Anyone have any ideas on this tag and information???

the red glass marble reflector i think is 1930's vintage Anthes Oiler brand. on second thought i think that reflector is WW2 issue as used on other military vehicles.

That is a good looking grader. For a today fix, plastic cap from antifreeze jug fits the pony gas tank. The caps are available new I think, but since it starts nice now don't get crud in the tank. And if your not up on the pony shute it off by turning the gas off and draining the crab.

You may already know this but many new to Cat don't.
As Ray mentioned shutting the gas off and running the pony out of gas is of utmost importance on any Cat pony motor. It keeps the carb from overflowing as the needle valve juggles under operation diluting the small quantity of oil in the pony motor crankcase with the contents of your gas tank. When that happens and left uncorrected crankshaft problems follow. Most if not all Cat operators manuals point this out saying the switch is only for emergency shutdowns.

p100kman,

Be sure to "baby" those 9 x 24 front tires and tubes. You can't find the tubes with the proper stem anymore, at least I have not found them after looking for a few years. I even have a tire shop looking and they can't find them. The ribbed tires are also scarce.

You have a nice grader there and a great history with a story to go with it.

For the tubes, I have thought of using a cold vulcanized stem repair with the correct stem. I saw some different ones on the Gempler website that might work. I was thinking of this approach for making a 16" truck tube
