Well I hate to admit I missed this on the inspection I have only run it about 20 minutes but still I wonder how long they have been missing!!  Need t oget one of those cameras on a wire to see up in there.. I did stick my finger in there to feel for metal shavings and only came up with some waxy boogers the gear I felt(passenger side) was a but pitted not too bad I would say a millimeter wide pit max and 1/4 mil deep pockets here and there but smooth not sharp. I have not received my Service manual in the mail yet, does anyone know what these drains are for?  I assume they are sae thread anyone know the bolt size?  Thank you!

Not missing, those plugs are for the steering clutch compartment and are usually left out to allow any oil leaking past the seals to drain rather than soak the steering clutches and brake. Plugs are put in when operating in water or mud deep enough to get into steering clutch compartments.

Josh Hallelujah! Thank you, I wonder what I felt up in there It sure felt like a big gear.. Well I am very happy to know that, I am sure I will be doing something With that soon my driver side stick seems to work a lot better without the foot brake than the passenger side, again appreciate the help!

If you replace them , some people drill a hole in the middle and you a spit pin in the hole to keep it open so it can drain

I never have clue which part is right.

they are npt 1 1/4. all the threads are sae. and any bungs and fittings are nptt or npts. its a good idea to fit bungs that are drilled and fitted with a small split pin to keep dirt and shit out. particularly wasps. the muddies like holes like that to call home. if your not in the states or canada you''l have to get some from a hydrualics joint. the local hardware/ plumbing supplies wont carry npt and will look at you funny if you ask for it.

if you havent already make sure to keep tins over the exhuasts to keep the rain out these pilot start diesels run the pilot engine exhuast through the intake for the main so it works like a big glow plug. and if it get rusty as its only thin you'll dust the main very quickly and wont know about it. it just some thing to check when you have that boroscope camera. proper rain traps are available from the dealers.

you say it turns one side better than the other with out the brake just pulling on the clutch. the clutch releases the drive the brake locks the track making it turn.
there supposed to work in pairs you pull the steer clutch and apply brake at the same time. there probably a little stuck stand on em hard a few times see if it improves. some tractors only turn one way most of there lives and wear more on that side particularly farm tractors. its a real issue with wheeled tractors so much so many farmers removed the bar to lock the pedals together for safety. crawlers not so much but it still happens.

there probably out of adjustment too.

Wouldn't hurt to put the plugs in and pour some diesel into each compartment ,run it back and forth a little and then drain all the crud and oil out

Didn't we go through this recently about plugs and OM pointed out they are not NPT but UNF? From memory the thread was 2" x 12TPI.

If the hole measures up at 1-1/4" then it definitely isn't 1-1/4 NPT

I don't have a D2 book but the D4 and D6 uses 0L0827 and its the same plug for final drives, steering clutch, transmission, clutch housing and engine sump.
