Hello, new member here. I recently became the owner of a 1949 D4. I think this should be a good project for my son and I. If there are any tips or tricks I should be aware of, any info is appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome Kelly: Did you hire a slide back truck or have your "landlord" sky crane it back to town?

That one should be pretty straight forward. Figure out if the main engine will turn freely first; Everything else seemed to check out well when I was out kicking tracks. Glad you got it home. Juiceman.

if you become a paid member of the club you get access to the tech library and trove of info it has.

these are pretty simple machines

"i reject your reality and substitute my own" - adam savage. i suspect my final words maybe "well shit, that didnt work"

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality

Nice looking machine with some desirable accessories. Lights, Hydraulics, tow hook, etc. Keep us updated on your progress!

Yes, Seyser: Some juicy bits on that one. From all indicators it should be an easy runner when I took a gander at it. Kelly should be happy with his "first" machine. It appeared too good to knock in the head. JM

While I was at work on Saturday my brother tackled a few issues on the D4. Shifter was stuck, fluids were low and misc whatnots. Sunday we worked on it, planning to give it a tow. We realized that it has a leak in the radiator. Not sure yet if it is the core itself or a gasket on the mating surface. The clutch needed attention, the lever does not snap into place. Not a major issue at the time. With that being said, we found some goodies.....

I think you will have a project to keep you occupied for a while. Lots to do before you dive into the clutch alone. These can be a big drain on your hip pocket quickly. You have some great resources available in your area. - cts

Hi, kelly-licon-6118.

Is there any chance that the pieces on the track in your photo might have something to do with why the clutch wasn't snapping in????????????????????????????????????? Just wun'drin'.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Those pieces are the pressure plate, albeit in several pieces. Removing the clutch cover under the pony flywheel should reveal all--that is unless the plate has been replaced and the clutch just needs to be adjusted for snap over.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
