Hi folks. I didn't know what project to do next, so I thought I'd mix it up a little and go with an implement; a Cat 80 Scraper. It will be combined with a modified 1:25th scale D9 that has already been completed. This one is to be fully weathered to resemble the below picture I found on the Classic Dozers site. A special credit to Roger Amato at Classicdozers.com for the photo.

This model will be approached differently than the Twenty Logging Special I completed a few weeks back. I need to take into account the dragging function of the scraper and the ground contact such a device would be exposed to. It will require delicate scratching as shown in the prototype. This won't be a "backyard junker" so rust will be minimal.

The Twenty project can be seen here: http://www.acmoc.org/bb/showthread.php?20439-New-Caterpillar-Twenty-Logging-Special-Model-Project

Here's the 80 model:

Here's the look I'm going for.

Thank you ACMOC for allowing my projects to be shown here!

Here are the updated pictures.

I had to strip the first finish down as I dipped my brush into the small container of alcohol instead of the acrylic paint and smeared the entire thing. :censored: It was kind of like pouring your orange juice into your cereal when the milk jug is sitting there on the counter. Don't laugh, you know you've done it. 😛

The entire interior compartment is to show polished metal as this is to replicate a scraper that is constantly used. You can see hints of that polish on the bottom. I'm comfortable with the direction the weathering is going. This is a totally different finishing tactic to my typical backyard-junker style that I enjoy most. It's so hard to not want to make this thing so super rusty!

More pics soon!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
