A bad day for a trucker. His permit took him on the beltway and he decided to take a shortcut thru town or so I was told.

Every bridge hit that I investigated the trucker had no idea of the height of his rig. I submitted testimony to the NYS Legislative Committee on this problem that the trucker has to measure his height and keep a record in his cab---they came out with a recommendation of more clearance height signs!

When we have oversize permitted loads going out, the trucker and the pilot car person always measure height to make sure it matches the permitted route.

PS
Buying the truck would be cheaper than buying the bridge!

Some mothers do have them, maybe the solution is to identify the potential mothers of these idiots and take measures to stop them from re producing.

every bridge has several hight signs in CA. They even post a sign as much as a mile from every bridge warning of the next bridge. Saw on in LA bridge ahead 23ft. These are not low bridges. EVERY BRIDGE. Millions for signs, nothing for pavement repair. OBVIOUS THE DRIVER HAD A ROUTE MAP. JUST DIDNT FOLLOW IT.

Hi, Folks.
I think those 3 photos say something about several things:

1. The mentality of the truck driver.

2. The strength of the 773 that it could tear out that much of the bridge girder without dislodging the body from the truck.

3. The speed that he was travelling at when he hit the bridge.

4. The strength of the king pin and quick hitch that the impact didn't tear the trailer right off the tractor.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Looks like it cleared all but the last beam, I imagine because of super or sideways tilt in the bridge. I suppose the bridge could have been measured at the entrance not the exit where the load didn't clear.

100% driver fault, no permits for that area.even if he had a permit dose not mean that you are going to clear it.He didn’t know his height. At the very least experience alone would had seen he couldn’t have cleared that bridge. Unfortunately some in this new generation of drivers are not concerned about public safety and running legal.

standard practice is to measure bridge height at its lowest point over the travel lane and in NY if its less than 14 ft clear it is posted for 1 ft less than measured.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
