Have you checked out after market parts and Cat Classic Parts ?I have had luck with parts from Regal, but it has been a few years so may not have as much any more for this vintage.

Sems odd to be completely toast if it still runs. What are they saying is all wrong. Lots of difference between a fix for occasional use machine and a 10,000 hour rebuild.
How you recently bought it, "ran great but puked 4 gallons of oil"???
Anyways like OIH said, what EXACTLY is wrong that a repair can not be done verses needing a 10k hr rebuild?
I've seen lots of old iron repaired cheaply when they never should have been run again and for occasional use, they last a lng time.
Please Elaborate on the Issues.
Like everyone else, I hate to see an old machine left for dead, especially if the engine will run.
"puking oil" out the exhaust could be anything from bad injectors (relatively cheap to replace these spray-nozzle type) to bad rings (slightly more expensive depending on who does the rebuild) and of course bad pistons.
Sometimes these engines just need to be run for a while and get up to operating temp to determine their condition.
Of course you may be limited by your mechanical aptitude (like a lot of us are) and have to rely (and pay ????) someone else to do it. If you are lucky there may be another board member who is close enough to come out and look at this with you.
Just my .02 and good luck.
Maybe you just have a "Wet Stacking" problem. Lots of things to check before turning it into a "Boat Anchor". Don't give up so quick. Lots of folks on this site have great insight and experience.

You guys never went back to read his Thread!
Has nothing to do with "Wet Stacking"!
I quick searched his original thread and quick replied when I put his quote of 4 gallons of oil in my reply.
He has oil coming out of his engine in the flywheel area, else I read it too fast?????

I guess this is what happens when people start a new thread that relates to something else and could have, perhaps should have continued on another thread as I read this this morning I thought there must be something I have missed but I thought I'll just shut my gob and see what happens
