After spending the winter rebuilding 3 Farmall cubs and a lowboy cub I traded the lowboy to my neighbor for a 54D47U he had sitting in his briars for a couple of years. I’ve got it in the shop and started looking at it and it’s kind of a mess. The first thing I see is that the crank on the pony motor has probably 3/8 of an inch play on it. The carburetor was off. I’m thinking a starter motor would be the way to go on the diesel as I don’t plan on using it in the winter anyway. My question is what is this motor that’s on the right hand side on the front of the diesel. It looks like a starter to me, but it is attached to a magneto with no wires going anywhere. And I can’t figure out how to post a picture.

I’ll answer my question. It is a generator. I have a big learning curve ahead!

If the crank have 3\8 play you have to change the bearing behind the flywell

I’m gonna go ahead and pull the pony motor. It’s already got the plate for a starter and I’m thinking that might be the way to go.

Hi, Coachmiami.

The last icon in the line above the text box where you type your posts is the icon for photo posting - click on it and follow the 'destructions'. As I have posted elsewhere on this forum, if after you have gone through the process, you end up with a small square in this text box where you expected your photo to be, click on the icon above and repeat the process.

The system ISN'T perfect but if you 'annoy' it enough it usually gives in and uploads your photo.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
