Just another old machine that I cant help but be drawn to.It doesnt run but the hard nose and hydraulics are really well done and I would like to put them onto another unit.Of course if I could find a match with a cable dozer or nothing at all this would improve it by 100%. Well what is it.

Hi, Egoman.
If you do a little metal polishing and/or wire brushing in the area above and to the left of the left adjustment cover on the back end of that jigger, you may just happen to find a serial number stamped into the housing. That is where the frame serial number plate is usually located and the number is supposedly stamped in the housing before the plate is rivetted on.

There is also supposed to be a serial number tag on the rear left side of the block, just inboard of the starter pinion box and about level with the top of it. Again, if the tag is missing, take to the area with the trusty wire brush and some cleaning fluid.

My guess would be 3T, 4T, or 6T. If it is a 4T or 6T, it will very likely have the letters, 'SP' stamped after the serial number to indicate 'special parts' as these serial numbers were usually made for military orders.

Happy hunting.

Sorry deas this is about 4 hrs away from me . It doesnt look like it in the pics but the sun was going down fast and so was the temp. What would the parts interchange be like amonst the T models that you listed? My biggest concern with this model would be the interchange of the hardnose and the hydraulic gear with the other models.

That appears to be the correct and somewhat rare original Cat hydraulic hardnose setup with #46 hydraulic control. The #46 was used on the D6, 7 & 8's of that era. Those extra "T" models only designate Army or Navy....with these usually being cable operated blades.
Need the tractor serial number to tell if it is an early or late arrangement but in general fits the 7M and 3T or "T" models.

It's a 3T.....Look at the heavier chasis in this photo.

7M 4T and 6T didn't have the "I" shaped chasis.

Can't tell with all the snow but looks like it once had a cable blade hung on the nose and I'm guessing from the nose and fender braces 3T-8,??? to maybe 3T-12,???.

Yes, does seem like I can see the cable pulley bracket (barely) on the nose.
The first hydraulic hardnose arrangement fit 7M1 to 3T11972.
At 3T11973 Cat offered the triangular shaped brackets that could be welded to the standard (cable) hard nose. The version of parts book I'm looking at doesn't say if they had a complete hydraulic hardnose for 3T11973 - up.....I suppose they did but I will have to research later.
