Hi Team,
a similar sized machine that came out in 1963 with wet S/C's and Brakes was the D6C.
From experience as a general rule of thumb, originally the track loaders were beefed up versions of an equivalent sized Track Type Tractors--basically a 977 was a d6 with bucket linkage etc, and D7 undercarriage.
BUT, the Numerical Parts Record would show any similar used parts for both machines, just as you indicate but without success.
At some time I recall that on some machines (D4--955 for sure) there was a change to the inner steer. clutch drums to go from multi toothed steels to ,I think 4 or 6 teeth splines where the drum splines were tapered to allow a gradual take up of load and so help reduce shock loadings to the drive train.
Just some random thoughts.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

You are correct Eddie for the 977 for sure.
Do you have a serial number break for the wet clutch in the D6C? I haven't found one.
Maybe the same design and parts that are in the 977!
The drum that I have is/has 8 lug steels that have a taper in the drum for them.
Guessing a gradual release and engagement to help with the release as well to break the oil film as well.
Problem is that drum 7M2928/9 has been discontinued and so far there is no aftermarket that I have found!
That is why I was trying to come up with a different fix with the newer splined dry drum and the wet discs!
But hopefully I have a used drum coming from eastern Canada that will solve my problem for now!
Maybe someone else can come up with a more permanent solution for someone else later!
