Hi, I am assembling a pony motor on a D2. I started to install the rod caps, the torque spec is 58 ft pounds on 5/16 bolts. When torquing the bolts it seems not to bottom out. I have 30 ft pounds on so far. I am afraid that they may break. Has any one come across this.Looking for help. Are they available yet if they break? Thanks

That's way to high for a 5/16 thread. Where did you obtain that spec?
Your 58 ft. lbs. is more in line with main engine rod torque. I don't recall seeing a pony rod bolt spec in the Cat literature.

I'm pretty certain those pilot motor conrod nuts only get tightened to 14 foot pounds, the heads are 25 pounds from memory.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
