a fellow needs help with this winch, any ideas???

I have a Tree Farmer C-5 with a Can-Car 20 winch, and the cable pulls out so hard that I have to hook it to a tree and pull away to get the cable off, and then when I have a hitch on it, the cable wants to pull out when I am skidding. I know there are bands in there, has anyone ever replaced them is it a big job, what kind of money am I looking at spending.
Thanks Guys

Hi: This maybe a shot in the dark, but thought I would try.

My son also has a Can Car 20 Winch. He is experiencing problems with the winch, as it is not holding.

I purchased a parts manual off of ebay, but it does not have the 'teardown' of the winch, and he is not sure the exact procedure to follow.

Do you have any teardown for this winch. We would be willing to pay for a photocopy of it.

Also, there is a place in Littlefork, MN. This is a bout 1/2 hr. drive south of Internatinal Falls, MN. The name is Northern Timberline Equipment. It is operated and owned by a family, the Hartwigs. Now Mr. Hartwig, was the person to purchase many many pieces of equipment from the Dryden, Ontario are from the loggers.

If some of you need parts for your equipment, possibly Northern Timberline may just have what you need. I don't have the phone number handy, but it is listed in the information.

Hope I am helpful to some needing parts.

Whoa, here's an old topic. Where abouts are you in Ontario?

No matter, hope this helps you. I hope you didn't pay much for the parts list, i hate to tell you, they are available free if you know where to look.

The cancar 20 design is very close to the gearmatic 19, i never could see the difference in them, but i'm sure there's something, probably minor. The trouble shooting section is more likely what you'll need. Offhand, if it's not holding, probably the brake (outer) bands are worn, or have some oil/gearlube on them.

http://www.paccarwinch.com/pdf/j358j.pdf - should be the parts, service and installation booklet for the 19/119 winch. You'll need the free adobe pdf reader to view it though.

Good luck

😊 😊

Thank you!!! Just finished printing off the service and parts manual total: 39 pages.

Excellent, and thanks again for the information. I have also email the previous poster advising of this information.

By the way, location is just about Dryden, ON.
Have a great weekend.
