hey all, I'm in the process of replacing the seals at the control levers on the two stage/valve unit.. Im not having much luck finding the part numbers. I did get a schematic scanned /emailed to me from a member, but it was just too fuzzy to read. Caterpillar dealer insist my control levers are beside my seat. I even gave them my serial number and still got a D4 only schematic..😞 My serial number on tag states 7w278. I have a shaft within a larger shaft. The outer shaft's seal is pressed into the tank/case itself. The inner shaft's seal is pressed into the outer/larger shaft. there also seems to be bushings also, but how do I know if these need replaced? My two shafts show some scuffing/grooving and slight wear. Help with this would be so appreciated.

I usually go to NAPA for seals, bushings, bearings and such as the nearest Cat dealer is another 48 miles away. Measure the shaft(s) and bores if the seals were destroyed when you took 'em out, they can cross reference 'em to more common numbers.

From my notes:
The small dia. seal is a CR #5662
The large dia. seal is a CR #11223

The outer shaft can be saved with a SS99112 speedy sleeve but positioning is critical as it's ony 0.313 wide. It's possible to stack two.

The inner shaft is still available from Cat...$126.63 last time I bought.

Bushings are steel and don't wear all that much....also can be interchanged from top to bottom.

7W278 is an oldy and uses the (cheap) filter, same as fuel filter element.

Here is a parts breakdown for the control valve, little later serial number but same parts. (had on file)

Those seal numbers are for Chicago Rawhide. Any good parts store should be able to interchange the numbers, either from Cat or CR.

Yes on the cover gasket.
