Dear Fellow enthusiasts,

How do I properly loosen the very large nut which holds the fuel injector into the block.
Previous owner uses a hammer and chisel to loosen the nuts.

That's no way to treat a grand ole' lady.
Please tell me how to do it properly.

Thank you for your expertise.
Chris

You borrow or buy a Cat injector socket. It has a relief in the side to straddle the fuel line and can turn the nut 1/12 turn at a time. They tend to be stuck pretty darned tight.

I borrowed one from the Cat dealer and broke it. Replacement cost me something over $70, but I kept the old one, welded it up and welded a nut onto the top of it so I could use a HAND impact wrench and socket on it. I now have a better setup than the new one.

Good luck and success. I hope you don't break an expensive wrench in the process.

Hi Chris,
Welcome to the BB.

Here is a link to where Carlscat made one for a D2.
Be aware there are two sizes of injector retaining nuts.
The D2 size and, a larger one for D4 etc. Be sure to measure your nut and purchase a socket to suit then modify as per the attached thread.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
