Funny (or dumb) story for you all. Got my D4 last fall while it was still warm but the poor pony was harder to start later in the fall. Could not keep it running easily etc. Came back to it this spring and used ether to start it, but still struggled. So after reading the forum realized it was time for a carb rebuild. Went out to take it apart, get the tag number etc and remove from the machine to clean. While studying the carb, removal, position, linkages it.....I realized that it has a choke!
A little lube to loosen the choke mechanism connected to the carb and it seems to have cured my need for a carb rebuild! Starts right up with choke and stays running with power. Always wondered what those two little knobless shafts were on the dash....lower was throttle which is a bit sticky still and upper was choke. Maybe if the knobs were still on it, I would have clued in!
Next task more fluid changes and then the right side track chain. Then will need something to bulldoze for fun.
