Mufflers Vs Straight Pipes

Folks,
I am getting around to cleaning up the D4D in terms of paint and fixing the more cosmetic things. When I bought the tractor it had a FLECO brush cab with a muffler that stuck above the limb risers. It did not take too many hours for me to learn I need to be more careful with limbs contacting the exhaust stack and bending the pipe.
So what did I do? I cut the exhaust stack down so that it did not stick up too high but know that being more aware would be a better approach. So now the question.
I'd like to put a new exhaust muffler/stack on and make it long enough to push the exhaust above my eye level. So, can i just put a straight exhaust pipe on (chrome would look good) or should I just use a new muffler that does just that (muffle the noise)? I guess I would get a bit more horsepower with a straight pipe but maybe there's a reason I need a real muffler such as back pressure??😮

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Go with the straight pipe and just wear hearing protection. Most of them came without mufflers in the first place.🙄

Hi Jim,
I always wear a hard hat with ear protection even though I'm under the brush cab. Those limbs find there way inside and having the hard hat and ear protection has saved my cranium a few times already.
Anybody no where to find a nice chrome pipe?😎

If you still want to muffle most the noise without loosing performance you can install a straight through muffler, not one with the baffles in it.
