One of my friends loved D2s. He had 5 of them when he died 30 years ago and they had not moved since then. They are now starting to make their way to new owners and I need to get them out of where they are to a more convenient loading location. The skidsteer is not big enough to pick them up and the 9U is too big to get into where they are so I had to get the 7U out. My friend worked in engineering at Cat during the late 40s and early 50s. He was there when Cat was designing the 18A D9 but did not work on that project. There is a picture of him in CH Wendel's Nebraska Tractor Tests book, unloading a D8 off a flat car at the University of Nebraska's test lab to get tested.
Thanks
Ken

Ken, All very neat looking machines obviously very well looked after by your friend

Hi, PW.
Do I detect a tinge of green in your expression - - - from 10,000 miles away??????

I mean… if one D2 is fun, wouldn’t 5 of them be five times the fun?
PW - your logic is sound unless you had to work one of them! Teddy Roosevelt "Rough Riders" had nothing on these machines. Needless to say, the cantankerous worn out machines I grew up with were a necessity, not the "toys" of today. They were a great improvement over many of the smaller machines they replaced. Many memories of the D2's, both "cruisers" (top seat) and "tailseat" machines, standard and wide gauge. 60 plus years has really changed the farming practices and machinery in the Northern Sacramento Valley and elsewhere. - CTS

You want to ask Clayton about that - he has about ten D2s : )
lol I believe I have 11 D2’s as of now! None of mine are tail seat so I should probably look for one! The answer to our question is you can never have enough Caterpillars! Be cautious though as others tend to get very jealous sometimes “women”!

Unquote.
Plus FIVE times the maintenance - and other expenses - ESPECIALLY if you happen to be married.
And I already 'own' more than all of you put together, PLUS THOUSANDS of other models and makes, with ZERO maintenance - all on hard drives attached to my laptop. LOL.

Clayton: You got me thinking in regards to the number of D2's I "might" have. Yikes! My best count is equal to yours if I add one non runner. They multiply like kittens. I could sell you a tailseat, but when a machine does leave here, it seems several take its place. Time for me to grab a clipboard and do another inventory. Small machines can be fun, as they do not take up too much room. Best wishes on your quest for a tailseat D2!
Juiceman I have my eye on a couple tailseat D2’s that are fairly close to me so I foresee my # increasing! At some point I will probably have to move as I only have 4.66 acres of land.
