Had the 922A out Saturday cleaning the road to where I am hobby logging on the weekend. Here's a few pictures.
One looking down the trail. Notice the generator on the hood. My alternator gave up the ghost so I strapped the generator on and put a battery charger on each battery to get me thru the day. I did not want the batteries discharged and freezing and also did not want to give up the heater fan.
And then one for MOG58, my U900 UNIMOG pushing snow.

The old loader worked great. At one point I had a little scare when I heard a noise like a stick hitting the underside of the machine. I backed up and seen what looked like oil in the snow in front of me. With a small expletive, I crawled out and looked underneath expecting to see a torn hose or something worse. There was nothing dripping. I looked closer and thought it looked like brake fluid. I crawled all the way under and puzzled could see wetness by the little trapdoor in the cab floor. I looked back in the cab and my stainless steel coffee cup was upside down on the floor. The noise I heard was of it falling and hitting the floor. Boy was I relieved but now I question my coffee making skills if it looked like brake fluid.

Looks good! We haven't had that much snow but we have had a few light snows. I've gotten my loader out a few times this winter, but haven't really been able to make it work.

Hey Roger, don't worry about your coffee-making prowess - I bet it still tastes better than that nasty Starbucks charcoal... Dunkin Donuts forever!! (Oops, might have just started WWIII....)

Old Iron Habit,

Good looking equipment. You can fix the alternator later when the weather gets better. Keep the block heaters plugged in!

That's my plan. We have a good local starter, alternator, generator, rebuilder that is real good on the older stuff. I will take it off in the spring and get it rebuilt. You are right, plugging in is a necessity, not an option.

Dieselholic, That is a fine looking 922B. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Neil, I hear you on the Starbucks, It a little bitter for me. At least mine didn't eat the paint off the floorboards.

The wife will ride in it but that in itself is a problem. She wants to drive as the passenger comfort has, as you know something to be desired. I put her in the loader last Saturday and let her play as I cleaned up the access road with the MOG. It was easier than negotiating with her over seat assignments. The V-bar chains all the way around really make a difference when plowing. I plowed 24" earlier this year and walked right thru it. Not this time though. Had to punch a path first with the 922. The ground cover is over waist deep here in the timber and much deeper on the road with the drifting. I have Bear Claw chains on both ends of the feller buncher to keep moving decently. Should quit cutting for the winter but the deer have become dependent on me. I have over 30 residing on my landing. Besides there are more big toys that I am looking at. My logging finances my habit. No cure for the addiction, only another aquisition for a temporary fix. LOL. The deer are eating the aspen tops as I drag the trees into the landing. They stay where the snow is packed down. They are not concerned about being around humans at all when they are starving. Our deer herd is taking a terrible beating this winter.

The buncher, the Ranger 666D grapple skidder and the slasher (First big loader Prentice every built) were all bought as " needing work" at a decent price. I put a lot of hours into them to get them decent. Better pinching fingers and swearing than listening to cussing at the bar. Got 2 old Hahn Harversters that I am going thru now. I just work alone and harvest a few hundred cords a year. It's my stress relief from my full time job.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
