Has anyone ever changed a D4400 over to a D315 in an old crawler? I have an excellent D315 and the old 7J is in good condition but the motor is very weak. The D315 is out of a 112 grader. Just dreaming probably but would be nice to know if it has been done. Thanks

We have an R4 , that was fitted with a D4-7U engine . Did not do the conversion ourselves , but I would think R4 and 7J back ends would not be too different.

A fairly common event to interchange....
The grader engine however may not be the best choice as the oil pan, oil pump and scavenge system, flywheel and flywheel housing, clutch, etc is not the same as the tractor.

Thank You! I am really torn between rebuilding the 7J or transplanting. I installed new pre cups several years ago and cleaned tons of rust out of block , I guess previous owner couldn't justify anti-freeze. Excellent machine, would like to keep numbers together. Again Thanks.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
