Maybe too many questions for one post but here you go.

Q1) Removed the intake and exhaust manifolds this past weekend. Some of the studs broke in the process and I'll be replacing all studs in the process. The nuts appear to be made out of brass. Was this common? Should I go back with brass nuts and steal studs?

Q2) Any recommendations on a paint for the the intake and exhaust manifold? I've seen the paint that you have to bake on but never tried it.

Q3) The on/off switch next to the gauges is not connected to anything. What should the switch be connected to? I know on my D2 it connects to the mag. Just wondering if it's the same on the 22.

Q4) Anybody know where they sell rebuild kits for the fuel pumps?

Q5) Is there a preferred muffler for these cats? All I have is a straight pipe and it's loud.

Used the POR15 tank seal this weekend and was very pleased with the results. Nice product and should fix the rust problem. Had to remove several magnets that someone dropped in the tank to collect rust.

Getting close to having this Cat farm fresh again and ready to disc.

Thanks,

Larry

Larry,
Yes, brass, or bronze, nuts were commonly used on exhaust manifolds to reduce the rusting together problem. My vintage Jaguar has bronze nuts, as does my CAT22. I recommend you replace them with bronze. Ray

im not sure about the brass nuts, mine was replaced with steel if brass came factory, last month i made my own gastket and replaced with grade 8 washers, studs and nuts!

I have not painted mine yet so im subscribing for what others say for the manifold!

yes the on/ off switch should go to the mag...

there is a sticky at the top of the discussion thread with parts, Then and now 1-781-335-8860 .you must have the stamped # on the fuel pump before thay will sell you the kit.

i do not have a muffler on my 22 just a set of radio earmuffs lol

good luck with the POR15... im thinking about using it!

I suggest you get your new studs and manifold gaskets from Florin Tractor Parts, I bought some manifold studs from my Cat dealer for my 15 and they were $112 for 10 of them, ouch, and they flew them in from Singapore, so I had a freight bill too!! I just bought new manifold gaskets from Florin, about $6 each, and new exhaust outlet stub ($40 I think it was), they have the studs, but not the brass nuts, nor does Cat. I'm 99% certain because I asked a month ago here in Australia. Use high temp thread lube on the studs in case you need to remove those steel nuts at a later date.

I use the high temp exhaust manifold paint in the spray cans, it works well and no need to bake, costs about $16, Cat. have their own cans available. I just bought new fuel pump diaphrams for my 22 from John Matta down in L.A, you need to cut the holes, but at $5 each you can't complain, he has the small gasket for the glass bowl too.
Good luck
Mike

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
