Hi. D2 5U -> sn 5U16708, Master Pin. It has a hole on each end. same size, maybe an 1/8" deep. I assume this is the master pin. Can you strike it out from the Outside towards the centreline of the machine or from the inside towards the outside of the machine or does it not matter (either way). Thanks
Hi, jk.
On your machine, it will drive inwards pretty much wherever you have positioned. However, it is usually recommended to have it positioned in a convenient location over/around the sprocket for a more solid base to strike against.
Have some beers handy inna cooler and a towel close by to wipe off the sweat. If you have young kids, it might be a good idea to have them a 'respectable' distance away lest you unwittingly 'enlarge their vocabulary'

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
great thanks. can it be inserted back in from the outside too after ?
Master pins can be a very vocabulary testing proposition! Put it as Deas stated, at the sprocket, right height for your sledge hammer swing. Biggest hammer you can swing! Have someone hold the "punch" with big pliers or tongs, wear face shields! If the pin will not move after you have severely warmed the environment with the "expletives", time to get the Oxy-Acet or the new gizmo's and either cut hole through it or make an X in it. Either of these will render the pin useless. GOOD LUCK! I have had them come out pretty easily and others are very difficult, have even cut the link a time or two. ( I do not know how you would attempt to drive on out from the inside with a sledge hammer, maybe if the track was off already or you used a hydraulic press of some sort???) Some master pins had a "plug" in them that had to be removed first, check. --- cts
Hi, jk.
Yes, it can be re-inserted from the outside. If you have the link eyes pre-heated at least until spit sizzles on them and also have the pin SEVERELY frozen, you may just find that you can almost push it in by hand. BUTTTTT, it WON'T stay like that for long so it'z prob'ly best if you don't stop for a smoke or a beer during the process.
Happy pin extraction and replacement.

Thanks everyone. Appreciated and we will keep you updated on the project :). I am happy to use it with the right clutch stuck (more more forward and reverse single track maneuvering and pre thinking each move....), but now my son is taking over... And he wants things to work properly :)... Also, does anyone know if the pony electric motor starter gear is removable/replacable..Its teeth are worn (the electric starter was not fully inserted in the housing for many years, so it wore the outer edge teeth down...). Thanks John
