I'm looking at a 1968 Military D7E dozer at an auction, serial number 75E2126. According to a Caterpillar cross reference, that serial number should be a High horse dozer, but it has the low horse air filter and smaller exhaust stack. Could this still be a high horse machine.

By the numbers 75E501-up = 48A6883-up = 180HP.
Doesn't mean that's what you have if the engine has been changed.

I saw a high horsepower D7E 75E with a low horsepower engine four years ago in Texas.
Look for the engine serial number tag on the left side of the block. The 47A and 48A civilian models had the tractor serial on the engine tag too.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
