i have a question. How would i find out what Cats were shipped to the military? There are no military tags on this one i am working on, but it has all the signs of being a military cat...im in the Navy so i can spot some of the things we do. Plus looking at the list of registered d4's i see alot of them on either side of the serial number i have are ex military. So just wondering if there is a database of s/n's Any help?

what year is it? It is my understanding that ALL cat equipment made from 1942 to 1945 was military equipment. Except for a few special orders for "war related service". It is also my understanding that EVERYTHING was painted green. Yellow paint did not come back to the manufacturing line untill 1945. Nichole at [email protected] can give you more info. probably. She is the archivist at CAT in Peroia.

All crawlers tractors Cat,AC &IH built during wartime were painted OD Greenall ID tags went from brass or aluim. to tin alomg with all knobs and filler capBut many of them never made it to the gov. many were sold to farmers who got a specail status from the gov. In northern Calif. Berglung tractor was aload to sell 2 D4s durring the war to large farmers I have them both. The AC dealer sold 4 model Ms I have 3 of them, no milt. markings at all just OD green all the machines that were sent to milt have other metal ID tags either sheetmetal or thick cast. All the wartime D2s Ive seen had specail parts tags with Higher gear transmission the joke always was so they couold outrun the bullits.for some reason there were many more TS9&18s then Cats in the surplus piles. I you run across a Cat with steel pony or main fuel cap and rusty ser.no. tags you can bet it was a wartime machine, maybe never got shipped to the milt but was built in the WWII era

I was wondering the same thing , as our D4-2T1599 is showing a LOT of OD paint under the yellow, and as the yellow wears I see more and more OD, could this be a military cat? I am also finding the same on our D4-7J5373W and they were both(I think) built during the war, so is there any other way to tell? other than rusty tags and fuel fill caps as both tractors are used, rusty , and slightly abused.
thanks

mine is a 2t7809w, makes it a 1944. It has a belt pulley on the back. i havent found any military tags on it. is there suppose to be a tag on the piece of the floor board that runs from one side to the other? the one right aft of the pony motor? it had a no battery generator on it, but no lights, no cab. heres some pictures before i started.
