May your Christmas be filled with joy, lots of good home cooked treats, and of course some Presents - need not be wrapped but prefer them to be YELLOW PAINTED. Merry Christmas all! As questions often arise about snow fighting, here is a video of length of the UP Railroad over Donner Pass. Midway there is a short section that shows bulldozers - Dozers are used to push back beyond the reaches of the flanger/spreader and rotary plows. I worked I-80 over Donner Pass, much of the route parallels the RR, conditions the same. Rotaries are called when banks infringe on the lines. On the RR, you will notice a rotary on each end of the consist. The Southern Pacific learned that configuration was needed long ago. They must have the ability to "cut" their way out as avalanche and derailments do not allow progress in either direction as they occur behind the train as well as in front.
