Does anyone know where to get a replacement mechanical temperature gauge and sensor for an early 1950s D6 9U? I have found that aftermarket ones do not have the right fitting size for the existing port on the engine block.
I had to get an adapter from Napa Auto to put a new mechanical gauge on my 22. Take your old senser end (or be sure of the thread size) and the new one and find someone at an auto parts store that can find an adapter for you. Good Luck.
Well I have not bought one in years, so maybe I got way behind again. It use to be any auto parts store. The only question was how long of a capillary tube did you want. Cat should have one, so their logo is on it. But the state of all mechanical parts today (wink, wink, made over there) I might put it in a pot of hot water you can measure with several devices to know how acerate it is.
It would be over 20 years ago I had one that would not go over 210 degrees. Working in conditions that cut off air flow, so get to 200 ish and stop and clean radiator off. All at once it started boiling over at just over 200 degrees.
Thank you, GrantJ and Ray54. It sounds like the key is to get an adapter. Good tip on checking accuracy!
