Ok all you people that are in the know about Cats, especially the D8.

I understand that there is the 1H, 1R, 2U, 13A serial number series D8's as well as the 14A and so forth.

I am VERY curious to know what series S/N Mary Ann is OR is she and her sisters so very special that they have or are a totally different serial number series.

Since I had the great honor to drive Mary Ann on Sunday at Santa Margarita, I have realized I failed to look or even think about what S/N series she is.

So, PLEASE help an old foggy (me).

Hey WaltD7-3t,

Mary Ann flies a serial number 9a-2262. As I understand it, the 9a series was special Military builds. The ACMOC serial book lists the 9a-2262 as the end of the run. I have been told it's a 1953 build, but the Book says 1956. It is built off a 14-a tractor that has been modified. I have been told that it was repowered with a 36-a engine. I will research more and keep you posted when I know more.

Here are a couple of photos the crew put in a box and stored in the cab. I found them with three hand written letters. They show Mary Ann being lifted aboard a ship at McMurdo Station. (spelling?)

Great pictiures. Is that a little pull scraper in about pic 15 or so at the back of the train of "big wheels"?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
