Hey guys, I recently came into a bunch of old CAT parts (along with many other parts). My problem is that I do not want to get rid of parts that fit the assorted CAT equip. I own. For those parts I do not need, I would like to find a good home for them. Particularly those that may degrade over time. As an example, virtually none of the gaskets I got are useable And what about a bunch of new D8 (aprox 1945) transmission gears that now have a light rust coat on them. Are these still good? With the parts I got micro-feish (and viewer) that appearently covers every CAT part up to 1974. When I look up part numbers the info given states such things as "Roller A. Steering Clutch" or "Bearing, Final Drive". this is just not enough info to find out exactly what this stuff is used in. There are just to many numbers to look up. An ACMOC member (Muselman) has been kind enough to help me with some numbers I just could not find. But, it would not be reasonable to dump a hundred pages of numbers on him. Anyway, many of these old CAT parts are in the original boxes. There are a few engines that do not fit anything I've got. Radiators, lights, pony motor parts, mags, injectors, roller bushings etc. etc. I do not know where to begin. I said to Muselman that "I am a low paid teacher with an old iron monkey on his back". I can fund work on the equipment I have if I sell parts I do not need. I need my CATs running, I use them a bunch. Anyway, I am not sure about how to go about doing this without a serious amout of time I do not have. Oh, there is tons of stuff that is unmarked. most of it appears to be CAT. I have no idea what to do with this stuff. And, what about all that stuff like engine main bearings (for early D8s) made by Federal Mogul. They are works of art, looks to me to be silver over brone. They're beautiful. Anyway, not sure about how to go about looking up this kind of thing either. P.S. It seems to me that in one of the threads a while back somebody was looking for some 2F1083 rod bearings. I have 5 boxes (upper and lower in each box) that fit nothing I have. Later, Floyd.

What I need is 4F-3450 rod bearings. Sure wish I was there to help you dig through that pile. Got a good D311 engine in there? That would save me a bunch of rebuild work.

I wish you luck. I just disposed of a very good complete D7 oil clutch--going in the next load--that I tried for two years at least to interest someone in. People just don't have the money for inventory or the storage space so they can't buy for speculation. If someone needs the part right now you can make a sale. Otherwise, figure on a lot of rusty parts to haul away one day.

Why not sell the parts you don't need in bulk to an old Cat parts dealer like Jim Zimmerman? Someone like him has the storage sheds to keep the parts, the parts books to know what they are, and the customer base to make good use of the parts. Just a suggestion. GWH

Hi Floyd,

I need some injectors, 7B8089 fit the D4 T'series I believe. And you might think about taking them the National Show in Woodland next June. It would be a good place to make some money and maybe bring something home too. Oh ya I could use a D311 as well. Or at least an oil pan and water pump, thanks, John

Try to find something like a master parts index. JD used to have a big book w/every part # in it, telling what model it was used on. Surely Cat has something like that, some guys on here have old Cat literature. that will tell you what you have & what it fits...sounds like you hit the mother lode...

Floyd,
It does not matter to me what type of mag it is as long as it works. The fire went out in mine. Let me know.

Looking for a radiator for a D4c 40A1 series.
What about track tension springs for the same machine?

I'm in need of rod and mean bearings for a D311 engine. Don't have the numbers with me today. Try to get them tomorrow.
Here is the number for the rod bearings 4H-3027, need 4.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
