No, the 8R has a vertical flange mount and your D35 has an inverted base mount mag.

i see that the RC mag does have mounting holes in its base- presumeably they use the same casting for vertical/horizontal/ base mounting...
so if i can live with the vertical flange being 'redundant', will my mag do the job???

I just looked at the magneto on my RD6 and it is an RC2Q. So you should be able to use yours on the 35 diesel.

does your mag still have a redundant vertical mounting flange on the impulse end and does it attach via 4 bolts in the base (upside down)?

No redundant flange mount, only the four bolts that hold it on upside down.
